Memories, 2023

One of my largest paintings to date, spanning over 2.5 metres, this four-panel work explores the memories of a man who returns to the same beach to fish throughout his life. I used pentimento to illustrate the repetition of experiences and the fluid nature of memory.

I wanted to capture how memories are fuzzy and unset, shifting as fluid fragments of recall. How the way we live begins to blur when we look back on experiences that once felt certain, and how nostalgia swallows long days and turns them into picturesque vignettes.

This work reflects on the way we remember people who may have joined us long ago. Their time might be limited, but the places we share can remain static and eternal, long after we’ve touched them.
